Alterations to provisions for closed businesses

Now lockdown is easing nearly all business are allowed to open again. There's only soft play centres and nightclubs which have to remain closed. As close contact environments, its only right they should be the last places to open in order to ensure customer safety. However, these businesses are at a significant disadvantage and require additional financial assistance in their extended closure.

It feels very unfair that businesses such as cafes, who are now open, have had their entire wages bill covered and are now once again making money. We are not allowed to reopen, and we have to foot the bill as the furlough scheme requires increasing employer contributions. This will amount to thousands of pounds before we can open. Furthermore, we may miss out on the Job Retention Scheme bonus of paying employees in November, December and January.

The original grants that we received were fantastic, and has paid for things like rent, insurance and ongoing contracts. But money does not last forever, and as the soft play industry and the nightclub industry will be closed for a much longer period than all other industries, it only feels fair that there is some extra help. We are now asking that the government do the following:

• Extend the Job Retention Scheme at 100% for the soft play and nightclub industries.
• Re issue the grants to allow businesses to cover ongoing costs such as rent, insurance and other ongoing contractual payments. If the Job Retention scheme is not extended, it would allow us to meet those payments too.
• Extend the Job Retention Scheme bonus for the soft play and nightclub industries so that even if we are not able to open in time for October, we would not be penalised through no fault of our own.
