Release Dr Issam Hijjawi,a Palestinian doctor;imprisoned in a British prison since Aug. 20
The Issue
Dr Issam Hijjawi Bassalat; a Palestinian eye doctor, Specialist Opthalmologist, was arrested in Britain in August 2020.
He was accused unjustifiably of Preparatory acts of terrorism in connection with gathering in a home in Omagh in July 2020. Dr Hijjawi was invited by a British government double agent to address a meeting about the Palestinian cause in Omagh in July 2020. Not known to Dr Hijjawi, the meeting was attended by members of the armed wing of the new IRA.
Channel 4 news revealed the role of the British government agent in organising this meeting. What happend to Dr Hijjawi was a clear case of entrapment.
Dr Hijjawi has been in prison ; since August 2020. He hasn't been brought to trial yet to prove his innocence. This is a clear violation of his basic human rights.
Dr Hijjawi's health is deteriorating; he was denied the right to be bailed to be able to support his young children.
Dr Hijjawi is known to people as a decent; hard working person of high moral values; an articulate peaceful campaigner for the right of the Palestinian people to Freedom Justice and Return.
He doesn't deserve to be imprisoned on false accusations which have no grounds.
Based on all this; and the continuing deterioration of Dr Hijjawi's health; and for the sake of his young children who need him badly; we demand his immediate release.
