Hi Angus,
My name is Susan Skalicky, I am a birth mother of two children that I’ve placed for adoption with the same family. My circumstances have made me acutely aware of the desperate need for change to Adoption Acts, to protect the vital biological connection between birth families and adoptees. Numerous studies have shown that adoptees are not coping well for many decades, exhibiting alarming symptoms equivalent to children who have been physically or sexually abused. They are at minimum 4 times more likely to commit suicide than non-adopted children, and that alone should be enough to provoke immediate change to our adoption infrastructure. Not to mention the severe decline in their mental, emotional and psychological well-being as a result of being biologically isolated from birth. Please take some time to review my petition, as I am very passionate about this, and believe our current adoption laws are not in the best interests of the children, nor birth families and only benefit adoptive parents. This goes against human rights. It goes against the awdoption act itself that regularly refers to the “best interests of the children” and yet that is not taken into account when the child is being placed, most specifically through private adoptions. Please share this as widely as possible and sign. I would appreciate any help you provide.
Kind regards,
Susan Skalicky
