The previous graphic, comparing cars with guns, seemed to put the focus on liability rather than prevention. Prevention is really what the petition is about.  

It also connects with the impulse of responsible gun owners to use firearms for protection. Unless we want schools and places of business to become like POW camps or Wild West towns where the fastest draw rules, this is impractical. 

There was an interesting article The 3 Worst Arguments Against Gun Control, that neatly counters some famous anti-gun-control positions you've probably heard before. These are handy to review and on closer examination, don't pass muster.
