Stop the sale of Dogs and Cats in pets stores and the sides of the roads in Texas

The Issue

The City of Phoenix passed a law that prohibits pet stores from selling dogs that come from puppy mills. They are mandated to sell dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens that come from local rescues which helps keep the unwanted animal population down. We need this here, in Texas, in OUR Great State, in OUR district. It is time to end this ridiculous abuse of animals that goes on right under our noses.

This is a personal plea, from the heart of a rescue mom. I am attaching the link to a video about my rescue animal. Her name is Daisy, we call her Diva Daisy. I didn’t save her life Senator, she saved mine. I am a United States Marine. I have PTSD. I found her at the Montgomery County Animal Shelter in June of 2012 and she has brought me through some dark days. But she isn’t going to be here much longer because she is dying from breast cancer. She was a puppy mill breeder, her previous owners saw her as a cash cow and used her as much as possible until she could not produce anymore and dumped her on the streets.

You see them everywhere, selling their puppies on the sides of the roads, on Facebook, on Craigslist, and in the Malls. These puppies are sold as “pure bred” but the reality is they came from cages in someone’s backyard where they were born into boxes with inhumane conditions. I am not talking about reputable breeders who care for their animals and are certified through organizations such as the AKC. I am talking about those that want to make a quick dime off of the suffering of dogs and cats only to dump them when they are done.

I implore you to please, watch this video and then act on it! Please consider writing and sponsoring a bill that will prohibit the sale of animals on the sides of the road, on Craigslist in Texas, and in Pet stores. It is time to be their voice!  Let’s pass Daisy’s Law and do it for Daisy!
