The Issue

When someone becomes a victim of a cold-case homicide, families are left searching for answers, justice, and closure. They seek transparency, consistent updates, and effort from law enforcement. Sadly, my family—like too many others— have been left in the dark for nearly four decades.

My maternal aunt and namesake, Catherine "Catrina" Diane Mowrey, was brutally murdered in Dallas, TX, in June of 1985. Despite the clear findings of her autopsy and toxicology reports—which showed no drugs in her system at the time of her death — it was still misreported as an overdose on two separate occasions in the days following- despite the fact that it would be quite awhile before toxicology reports were even concluded or available. Even more disturbingly, (and also never mentioned) when she was found, there was a belt wrapped around her neck directly as well as a second belt securing a sheet over her body.

After years of attempts to contact, communicate, request information, give information and investigating this case on my own with minimal to no response, communication or contact with any of the departments within the Dallas Law Enforcement Divisions/Departments or governing offices, I was forced to make the matter public in order to bring awareness and attention to this case.

No family should have to wait 40+ years for even an attempt at justice, accountability and at the very least, acknowledgement. The trauma stemming from the emotional toll of this horrific event has most recently taken my own mother - yet another casualty of the pain this unresolved case has caused.
