Allow visible tattoos and piercings for workers at Texas Roadhouse

The Issue

I have worked at my local Texas Roadhouse for almost 6 years. A very big portion of our staff has had tattoos. Plenty of other restaurants around ours have allowed visible, non-offensive tattoos and piercings in the workplace; then you see us, needing to cover pieces of art that we use to express ourselves.

I have seen countless encounters of tables talking about tattoos with their servers. Having that little bit of extra personal connection with the servers and their tables is almost invaluable when we are trying to provide a personalized service to our guests. It's pretty silly to me to have to cover up with sleeves and turtlenecks, making our shifts extremely uncomfortable, when the tattoo industry makes billions a year. Tattoos are becoming increasingly popular and it gets even sillier every year when we act like not a lot of people enjoy seeing their art or expressing themselves with their tattoos and piercings.

Now sure it's easy just to say not to get a visible tattoo and not have to deal with coving it up, but it's rediculous to expect people who are proud of their tattoos and piercings to feel ashamed of their art, and make them cover up something that they felt they could express their lives with. As an employee that personally does not have any tattoos currently but am planning on getting some in the future, I'm tired of watching my friends and coworkers get criticized for what they are more than happy to show off.
