One of our employees (also a dear friend) was rear ended by an 18 wheeler right before Thanksgiving in 2015 as he was waiting to turn into our business. He died immediately from the accident due to the severity of it. The sad thing is that this, and many other deaths, could easily have been prevented if there had been a turning lane. The sections of highway 281, 71, & 29 in the Hill Country are getting more and more traffic, mainly with dangerous 18 wheelers, because of the gravel companies and construction. Many people live and work right off of the highway. Unfortunately the speed limit is 70 mph, which means people are usually going much faster.  We live near our place of business, and have to turn across oncoming traffic to get to our house. Like our family, many other people live in this area as well. It is nearly impossible to turn at certain times of the day, and especially holidays when traffic is peaked. There are also many new developments coming up, which means even more traffic! Since there have been two very recent deaths on the north side of Marble Falls, they are putting in a turning lane. However, nothing is being done about the south end where we live near Round Mountain, and where our employee was killed! I have had too many close calls, as well as my children, and others. Multiple fatalities have also happened on highways 71 and 29. Something must be done before more deaths happen! Please sign this petition to get the attention of the TX Department of Transportation! Lower the speed limits, and please put a turning lane in! There will only be more people living in the area due to the new developments that are planned and it's not right for the highway to continue being unsafe!
