Deny Waste Water Treatment System Permit #WQ0015381001

Deny Waste Water Treatment System Permit #WQ0015381001
The Issue
Behind Nantucket Housing, LLC Blazer building Inc. is attempting to construct an apartment complex (Meadows@ Cypress Creek/The Lodge @Cypress Creek 12321 Huffmeister rd.) that has already been denied by local water districts, State Representatives and protested by community members and organizations. They are requesting a permit to build a waste water treatment plant and dispose of the up to 55,000 gallons of treated water a day via a ditch and then storm sewer that will subsequently end up in Cypress Creek. This estimate will not include the addition of storm water run off from the developed property. Our region is prone to flooding. In fact, recent rains have caused severe flooding issues across the area this past month. This section will flood again and the added stress of additional water flowing including the additional storm water run off will only make the current flooding problem more prominent. More so, Effluent water will increases the possibility of numerous waterborne pathogens, including but not limited to viruses, bacteria, salmonella & protozoa potentially harming any human, animal or plant that comes in contact with the water. The chemicals used in the treatment process can harm the aquatic life that resides in Cypress Creek and change the water quality. The potential for eutrophication is high as these chemicals can change the entire ecosystem of a creek that is currently used for agriculture, fishing, kayaking and swimming as well as walking, biking and atv trails. We are requesting that a Public Meeting be held allowing an opportunity to submit comments and ask questions regarding this permit request. Do NOT permit Nantucket to build this facility in an area already dealing with flooding. (Please see aerial photo of our neighborhood facilities flooded.)
