Terminate the Inhumane Exploitation of Elephants in Tourism and Labor Industries

The Issue

I am filled with sadness and frustration as I recall the countless images and videos showcasing the brutal treatment of elephants for financial gains in the realms of tourism and labor. Witnessing the gut-wrenching 'spirit breaking' process applied to these majestic creatures has been an experience that has torn at the very fabric of my soul. Mothers are forced to watch their newborns endure unspeakable suffering, the torment often leading to their demise. The adult elephants do not fare any better - they are relentlessly worked until they drop, only to be left to starve if they can't fulfill their designated tasks.

Furthermore, it is a shocking fact that there are about 16,000 elephants globally held in cruel captive conditions, working in harsh areas including logging sites and tourist camps (Bradshaw, 2020), an unbelievable figure that only adds weight to this pressing issue. Additionally, due to the severe psychological stress, many captive elephants oftentimes exhibit 'zoochosis' or repetitive, abnormal behaviors (Clubb, 2008), a testament to the psychological agony they endure.

The misuse of elephants for labor and entertainment is neither necessary nor humane. It's high time we collectively demand an end to this appalling industry and insist on proper protection for these intuitively intelligent and emotionally complex creatures. Sign this petition to stand for the rights of elephants and end their unjust suffering.
