Terminate the Conservatorship/Guardianship of Wendy Williams

Terminate the Conservatorship/Guardianship of Wendy Williams
The Issue
To: The Honorable Members of the Judicial System and Concerned Citizens,
New York State Unified Court System, Court Examiners, New York State Attorney General's Office, Office of Court Administration (OCA)
We, the undersigned, urgently call for a thorough reevaluation and immediate termination of the guardianship imposed on Wendy Williams.
This petition is not only a plea for justice but a call to action against the ongoing exploitation and systemic injustice faced by Wendy Williams, a prominent Black woman whose autonomy has been unjustly taken away under the current guardianship/conservatorship.
Wendy Williams, an accomplished media personality and beloved public figure, was placed under a guardianship/conservatorship allegedly for her protection and well-being. However, since the appointment of Sabrina E. Morrissey as her conservator/guardian, it has become clear that this arrangement has failed to serve Wendy's best interests. Instead, it has resulted in restricted freedoms, a lack of transparency, and financial exploitation.
Evidence of Concerns Under Conservatorship/Guardianship
Health and Autonomy: Wendy Williams appears lucid and well enough to manage her own affairs with the support of her family. Many individuals who are less capable are entrusted to family members for assistance, making this guardianship not only unnecessary but oppressive.
Financial Exploitation: There are growing concerns about the management of Wendy’s finances under this guardianship/conservatorship. Despite her substantial earnings and past financial stability, there are indications that her wealth is being misappropriated. This raises serious questions about the true intentions behind the conservatorship/guardianship.
Lack of Transparency and Accountability: The decisions made by Sabrina E. Morrissey have often lacked transparency, contributing to suspicion of ulterior motives. The refusal to allow Wendy to speak publicly, interact freely with her family, or make personal decisions further erodes trust and highlights the restrictive and unnecessary nature of the conservatorship/guardianship.
Conservatorship as a Money Grab
This conservatorship/guardianship has been unnecessary from its inception and is clearly a money grab. The arrangement has stripped Wendy of her financial autonomy and independence under the guise of legal protection, while benefiting those appointed to manage her estate.
Systemic Injustice and Racial Bias
The troubling circumstances surrounding Wendy's conservatorship suggest a broader issue of systemic injustice and racial bias within the judicial system. The appointment of a guardian who has allegedly acted against Wendy’s best interests raises critical questions about potential collusion. We cannot ignore the possibility that this situation reflects a deliberate attempt to exploit and marginalize a successful Black woman while stealing her wealth.
Historical Pattern of Exploitation
The exploitation Wendy Williams is facing is not an isolated incident but part of a long-standing pattern of white individuals and institutions systematically stealing wealth from Black people. For centuries, Black wealth has been unjustly appropriated through various means, including slavery, segregation, discriminatory laws, and unfair economic practices. This conservatorship/guardianship appears to be yet another manifestation of this historical injustice, where a successful Black person's financial autonomy and wealth are being stripped away under the guise of legal protection.
Demand for Restoration of Financial Independence
In addition to the aforementioned issues, we demand the immediate restoration of Wendy Williams' financial autonomy. Specifically, we insist that her full amount of money, held by Wells Fargo before access was granted to the conservator/guardian, be returned to her control. This is a necessary step to ensure Wendy's financial security and independence, which have been unjustly compromised.
Our Call to Action
We demand the following actions be taken immediately:
Independent Review: Conduct an independent and transparent review of Wendy Williams' conservatorship/guardianship. This review should include a thorough examination of the conservator's actions, financial management, and the judge's (Lisa Sokoloff) decision-making process.
Public Accountability: Hold all parties accountable, including the conservator/guardian and the judicial officials (Judge Lisa Sokoloff) involved. If any misconduct or collusion is discovered, appropriate legal actions must be taken.
Restoration of Autonomy and Finances: Restore Wendy Williams' autonomy and right to manage her personal and financial affairs. Ensure the full amount of her money, as held by Wells Fargo prior to the conservatorship/guardianship, is returned to her control. Implement safeguards to ensure her future protection without stripping away her freedoms.
Legal and Systemic Reform: Advocate for reforms to prevent similar abuses of conservatorship/guardianship laws. Ensure these laws are not weaponized to oppress and exploit individuals, particularly marginalized groups.
Conclusion
Wendy Williams deserves the dignity and respect that have been unjustly taken from her. Her plight is not just a personal tragedy but a glaring example of the systemic issues that need addressing. By signing this petition, we stand in solidarity with Wendy Williams and demand justice, transparency, and an end to this exploitative conservatorship/guardianship.
Sincerely,
Mademoiselle H.
