Terminate Child Support Enforcement on Actively Involved Parents

Terminate Child Support Enforcement on Actively Involved Parents
The Issue
In homes across America, Parents are trying their best to be an active and essential part of their children's lives. Yet, the current child support system often doesn't take this involvement into account. It's not just about money; it's about the quality of time and emotional investment these non-custodial are willing to contribute. This issue hits close to home as I watch my husband grapple with the realities of this system every day. Our three children spend more time with a babysitter than either parent just because the current system provides incentives for custodial parents to limit non-custodial parents' involvement, tying this to financial gains in the form of child support.
This is not an isolated issue; statistically speaking, when money is involved, the custodial parent is less likely to ask the non-custodial parent for any support regarding the children. Alarmingly, children end up in daycare, missing out on valuable parenting time when the non-custodial parent could have been present - a reality shown in various research publications on the impact of non-custodial parents on child development.
Our collective voice demands a reform of the child support system. We implore policy-makers to consider the intangible, emotional benefits of active paternal involvement and make changes to provide equitable involvement opportunities, regardless of financial provisions. This not only supports non-custodial parents like my husband who are trying to make a difference but also provides better for the children who deserve complete involvement from both parents. We call on you to become a part of this movement and sign this petition. Together, we can bring about beneficial change for our children and our society. If you could please sign and share and help us meet more people that would be great!
