Temporary Traffic Block on Lamplight Drive for Trick or Treat safety

The Issue

As neighbors and organizers of The Haunted Oaks, our annual Halloween celebration on Lamplight Drive in Woodbury Minnesota, we've seen the event grow impressively each year.

This past Halloween (2024) alone, we estimated over 1,700 visitors to The Haunted Oaks.

Due to our success and the surge in visitor numbers, we believe it is crucial that safety measures are implemented.

  • We are requesting a temporary traffic block on Halloween from the hours of 4:30-9:30 on Lamplight Drive from Lamplight Drive & Courtly Road to Lamplight Drive & Montrose Road. Surrounding roads are also an option (Victoria, Glenross)
  • Residents would still be able to access their homes. Simply, visitors would not be able to drive or park during these hours for safety.
  • We ask for public safety's assistance with traffic control (no parking signs, street closure, communication to park at Ojibway or surrounding parking lots)

Creating a safer environment benefits everyone - children can enjoy trick or treating without the worry of cars, and drivers will be saved from navigating through a crowd.

Communities elsewhere have seen success with similar endeavors. For instance, Hudson Wisconsin's "Halloween on 3rd St", they have been implementing temporary road closures on Halloween for years to ensure safety.

Let us come together as a community to ensure the future success and most importantly, safety, of The Haunted Oaks. We urge the city of Woodbury to lend us their support and help coordinate these changes. Safety measures like these are what turn events into traditions, and houses into homes. Please sign our petition.
