Petition: Temporary Suspension of Fuel Excise Due to Rising Global Oil Prices

To the Honourable Members of the Parliament of Australia,

We, the undersigned citizens and residents of Australia, respectfully call on the Australian Government to introduce a temporary suspension or reduction of the federal fuel excise in response to rapidly increasing global oil prices caused by instability and conflict in the Middle East.

The recent escalation of geopolitical tensions has significantly disrupted global energy markets, placing upward pressure on fuel prices. These increases are having a direct and immediate impact on Australian households, small businesses, farmers, and transport operators who rely on affordable fuel to work, travel, and maintain essential services.

With many Australians already facing ongoing cost-of-living pressures, higher fuel prices risk further increasing the cost of groceries, transport, and everyday goods across the country.

A temporary pause or reduction of the fuel excise would provide immediate relief to families and businesses while global markets stabilise. Similar measures have been implemented previously during periods of extraordinary economic pressure.

We therefore respectfully urge the Australian Government to temporarily suspend or significantly reduce the fuel excise until fuel prices return to more stable and affordable levels.

We ask that this matter be given urgent consideration in the interest of supporting Australian households, businesses, and regional communities during this period of global uncertainty.
