Why this petition matters

Started by KATHERINE KELLY

Treeby is a suburb 20 minutes from Perth CBD, right next to the Freeway.  We have NO mobile phone reception, perhaps 1 bar.  WE NEED A PHONE TOWER AND URGENT SUPPORT TO BOOST OUR PHONE SIGNAL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES.

WE CANNOT PHONE 000 - TELSTRA KNOW AND HAVE DONE NOTHING TO SUPPORT US WHILST THEY PLAN A TOWER.

We have been fighting for four and a half years with no solution in place.

Will it take a death before they act?  Telstra and their planning and construction team and the City of Cockburn know. Paul Fletcher, Federal Minister for Communities and infrastructure responded to our pleas with the insulting suggestion to phone our service provider. Josh Wilson MP, Fremantle, has been to our suburb and advocated for change.

Telstra have continued to receive payments from residents, despite NOT providing a service we pay for. There are around 5000 phones in Treeby.  We have an over 55's community and residential care community. We cannot phone family unless they have apps, older family may not have apps.  We cannot phone Doctors, our children's schools, a hairdresser to make an appointment.  We can't receive phone calls - they do not show as missed calls, we do not receive messages.

We need signatures to show community support for the URGENCY for TELSTRA to fix this issue and bring in immediate support for residents, so we have access to emergency services, family and can make medical appointments or just phone calls.  I feel it is negligence when telecommunications companies konw the seriousness of a situation and do not immediately intervene to support the loyal customers who pay for a service they do not receive.  WE NEED A PHONE TOWER AND WE NEED SUPPORT WITH A TEMPORARY TOWER OR BOOSTER UNTIL THE TOWER IS CONSTRUCTED. Our local member has not supported us the way we feel it should have. We need 20,000 signatures. I can't phone anyone, not even for a pizza!
