Earlier this year, $16 billion in climate and clean energy grants were awarded to nonprofit groups under the Inflation Reduction Act—funds meant to jumpstart local green banks, deliver affordable clean energy, and support low-income and underserved communities most affected by pollution and climate change.

Now those funds are frozen.

The Trump administration, led by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, is blocking access to the money, citing unsubstantiated claims of fraud and shifting “priorities.” Meanwhile, community organizations are laying off staff, delaying projects, and watching desperately needed resources sit idle while the planet warms.

Today a federal appeals court just ruled that the Trump EPA has the authority to continue holding the funds. But that doesn’t make it right—and the fight isn’t over.

We are calling on EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, the U.S. Congress, and the federal judiciary to:

• Unfreeze the $16 billion in climate grants legally authorized under the Inflation Reduction Act
• Stop using vague claims of fraud to punish communities and reverse Congress’s intent
• Deliver funding to the nonprofit green banks selected through a competitive process to serve the hardest-hit areas.

These grants were designed to create jobs, improve home energy efficiency, and help underserved neighborhoods access clean power. Blocking them only hurts the very people climate legislation promised to help.
