President Trump has repeatedly vowed to end the war in Gaza. He said he would “stop the killing” and “bring peace to the region” within days of returning to office. 

At the White House in early April, a reporter reminded Mr. Trump that his 2024 campaign promise to end the war in Gaza remained unfulfilled.

Now, Israel has announced it will begin an intensive Gaza offensive on Monday.

“Gaza will be entirely destroyed, civilians will be sent to... the south to a humanitarian zone without Hamas or terrorism, and from there they will start to leave in great numbers to third countries,” said the far-right Israeli finance minister Bezalel Smotrich this week at a conference in the occupied West Bank settlement of Ofra. 

Trump's response? Silence.

Humanitarian groups and international agencies warn this escalation will lead to catastrophic civilian casualties, further starvation, and the total collapse of aid efforts.
