The Issue

Some of the last untouched forests in America are at risk.

The Trump administration is considering rescinding the Roadless Rule, a landmark environmental protection that has safeguarded over 58 million acres of national forest for more than two decades.

If overturned, nearly 45 million acres of pristine forest—home to endangered wildlife, critical watersheds, and ancient ecosystems—could be opened to logging, mining, and road-building. These are the same forests that help filter drinking water for over 60 million people, provide crucial habitat for rare species, and act as natural buffers against wildfires and climate change.

The Roadless Rule has protected our public lands from reckless development since 2001. Without it, communities will face more pollution, fragile habitats will be lost forever, and America’s public lands will be handed over to industry interests.

We, the undersigned, call on President Donald Trump and the U.S. Department of Agriculture to:

  • Keep the Roadless Rule fully in place—no rollbacks
  • Protect all 58 million acres of national forest from industrial development
  • Prioritize clean water, wildlife protection, and climate resilience over profit.

The Forest Service already manages over 370,000 miles of roads, with billions in backlogged maintenance. Adding more roads through wild, unfragmented forest is not “management”—it’s destruction.

Time is running out: the public comment period ends September 19th. We need your voice now.

Protect our forests. Protect clean water. Protect future generations. Tell President Trump: Do not rescind the Roadless Rule.
