Tell Trump: No Great Gatsby Parties While American Kids Go Hungry

The Issue

Millions of Americans just lost food aid.

As SNAP benefits expired and the government shutdown dragged into its second month, families across the country faced rising health care costs, empty refrigerators, and shuttered support programs. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump threw a lavish “Great Gatsby”-themed party at Mar-a-Lago—complete with Jazz Age outfits, chandeliers, and marble bathroom renovations he proudly showcased on social media.

This isn’t just out of touch. It’s a disgrace.

At a time when over 750,000 federal workers are furloughed and children are losing access to nutrition programs, the president chose to flaunt personal luxury projects and party like a billionaire out of a F. Scott Fitzgerald novel—a book meant to criticize, not celebrate, wealth without conscience.

Even worse, his administration has made little effort to restore funding for the very programs helping low-income families survive. The optics couldn’t be clearer: marble for the elite, hunger for everyone else.

We are calling on:

  • President Donald Trump to immediately restore full SNAP, WIC, and Head Start funding during the shutdown
  • Congress to block any further funding for vanity construction projects (including White House ballrooms) until core services are fully restored

The American people don’t need chandeliers above gold toilets. We need food on the table, care for our kids, and leadership that knows the difference.
