Tell Trump: Don't Gag Federal Workers With Forced NDAs
The Issue
The Trump administration just proposed requiring every federal worker in America to sign a nondisclosure agreement. Not just new hires — existing employees too. If this rule goes through, federal workers could be legally silenced for up to five years after they leave government service.
Federal employees already operate under strict legal obligations to protect classified and sensitive information. What this proposal adds is something different: a sweeping gag order on "pre-decisional" and "deliberative" material — vague language that could be used to punish workers for speaking out about waste, abuse, or wrongdoing inside their agencies.
This is a threat to free speech and government accountability. Whistleblowers have exposed everything from financial fraud to civil rights violations. Forcing workers to sign NDAs — under threat of legal consequences — sends a clear message: stay quiet or face the consequences.
The public has 30 days to comment before this rule is finalized. Tell the Trump administration: federal workers are not corporate employees bound to protect a boss's secrets. They work for the American people.
