Tell Trump: Demand an End to the Killing of Journalists in Gaza

The Issue

Four more journalists were killed this week in an Israeli airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, including Associated Press freelancer Mariam Dagga, who had been documenting children dying of starvation. She leaves behind a 12-year-old son.

The strike killed 19 people in total. Israel says it will investigate—but this is part of a larger, deadly pattern.

At least 192 journalists have been killed in Gaza in less than two years.

This is the deadliest conflict for media workers in modern history—by far. By comparison, 18 journalists have died in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Press freedom organizations and international reporters are sounding the alarm: journalists are not being protected—they are being eliminated.

We, the undersigned, call on President Donald Trump to:

  • Publicly condemn the ongoing killing of journalists in Gaza, including freelancers working for American and international outlets;
  • Demand that Israel protect civilian journalists under international law, and halt strikes on known media personnel and medical facilities;
  • Use U.S. diplomatic leverage to ensure a full, independent investigation into this strike and the broader pattern of journalist deaths in Gaza;
  • Push for full press access for international journalists to enter Gaza and safely report alongside their local counterparts.

Journalists are not collateral damage. They are the eyes of the world. Targeting—or turning a blind eye to the killing—of those who risk their lives to document war is a violation of press freedom and international law.
