At yesterday's SFID board meeting, 3 of the 5 board members voted to dramatically increase your water rates, starting on June 1, and with the full impact hitting within 18 months. In doing so, those three members (Hogan, Dadi, and Smerican) chose to ignore the legitimate concerns of the other two directors, and fully 25 percent of its customers (representing possibly a majority of its revenues). Their action once again raises the question: who do these three directors think they represent? Are they effectively just junior employees of Sacramento, who simply carry out orders issued by politicians and their hand-picked bureaucrats? Or, are they locally-elected board members, who owe a duty to their customers to act in their best interests? Sadly, it seems that they have chosen the former. Maybe it is time to elect new board members, citizens who understand where their duty lies.
