Petition updateSan Diego Does NOT Have A Water Shortage - Stop Politically Motivated Cuts and Rate RisesVictory? The Bureaucrats Declare The Non-Crisis Crisis is Over...for Now.
San Diego Water Truth www.watertruth.org

Thanks to all of you who stepped up for the truth about San Diego's water supply. For over a year, we have pressed our local water leaders to challenge Jerry Brown's illegal executive order that forced water cuts and much higher water rates, on the basis that the Governor did not base his cuts on a finding of an actual water shortage. His action was purely political, the type of cynical bullying we too readily expect - and accept - from the professional political brigade in Sacramento.
Finally, after much public pressure, the Governor's hand-picked bureaucrats has raised the white flag and now accept that any future water restrictions should be based on actual, real world water supply conditions, community by community.
This is an important victory for all of us in San Diego, who have so carefully developed a robust, diversified portfolio of supplies, invested in greater local storage to carry us through emergencies, and overcome the misguided Greens to build a highly efficient and reliable seawater desalination plant.
The sad thing is that none of this was necessary: the higher water rates (which are here to stay), the squandering of trust by our local water board members, the "drought shaming" mentality, and the general failure of leadership.
At least, finally, our local water boards have admitted that there is no water shortage in San Diego, and have begun to remove the "emergency" regulations and to let us realize the benefits of the years of sound water investments we have all paid for.
Now, go grow something green!
With gratitude for your support,
Don Billings
