The goal of this petition is to reduce the amount of mass shootings taking place in our country today. The way that this petition is intended to work is to put pressure on the major news networks to stop broadcasting the names and/or showing the faces of any mass shooter. This is not to say that they shouldn't provide information on the incident. It is simply a request that they omit these two unessential pieces of information. There is research to back the fact that in these cases, part of the shooters motivation is fame, competition with other gunmen, and to provide encouragement to others to lash out in such a destructive and evil way. If in doing this we can prevent just one incident, the petition will be worth it. Signing on to this petition and forcing the networks to at least acknowledge these facts is a way for us to work together towards this common goal.
