Tell the Florida Legislature to vote no on privatizing our publicly operated prisons. Public safety is not for sale.

The Issue

Privatizing our publicly operated prisons in the southern region of Florida will place those who live in the surrounding communities at an extreme safety risk. The more experienced certified officers will be replaced by those less qualified to supervise inmates and insure they stay secure behind the wall of our state prisons. Facts show that more problems with escapes and prison takeovers such as riots occurs in private operated prisons. Privatization will also have a devastating effect on smaller communities with an already high unemployment rate. In some cases an entire community relies on employment at the prison inside the community to ensure economic growth of that community. People could be replaced with those living outside that community.
