Tell South Carolina That We Won't Put Up With Animal Abuse!

The Issue

The shootings at the animal shelter in Chesterfield, SC have become national news. Animal Rescue Volunteers who were visiting the shelter noticed that there weren't as many dogs there as they had expected to find. They were told by a worker that it was because they were "taken across the street." Apparently, this meant they were taken across the road to a landfill area and shot. Volunteers went to check it out, and found bodies, bones, and dog bodies with gunshot wounds in their head. No one is taking responsibility for this. While employees are currently on leave during the investigation, the Sheriff, Sam Parker, who is supposed to be over the animal shelter, has no answers for anyone. He says he has no idea why the employees had guns, how long it has been going on, or who authorized it. We need answers, punishment, and education for the people involved.

While there is apparently a law on the South Carolina books that allows shooting as a way of euthanasia for animals, it is described as legal only in emergency situations. Sheriff Parker has not had any answers for us, and we demand them. Fox Charlotte's Morgan Fogarty asked Sheriff Parker for some answers, but he had little to say. These dogs had no chance to find a foster home or forever home. We need to stand up for them and prevent this from happening again. Please join me in letting Sheriff Sam Parker know how we feel. Here is another link to the story from Fox Charlotte, one from MSNBC, and from WBTV. We won't put up with animal abuse!
