Tell Scouting America that Scouts is for ALL
The Issue
Scouting America has been a central part of my life for many years. As a troop founder, Eagle Scout, and a dedicated National Youth Leadership Training staff member, I have poured my heart into creating a space where all young people can grow, learn, and thrive. I've also been hired for my third season at Philmont Scout Ranch. These roles aren't just titles to me; they represent my sincere commitment to the ideals of inclusion, respect, and community responsibility that Scouting America embodies.
However, a grave concern has surfaced, threatening the very foundation of the inclusive spirit of Scouting America. Recent rhetoric from Pete Hegseth and Donald Trump has sought to exclude transgender scouts from participating in scouting activities. This is absolutely unacceptable and contradicts everything Scouting should stand for—an organization that supports and cares for all youth, regardless of gender identity.
Scouting should be a safe and welcoming environment for everyone. An environment where young people are encouraged to explore and develop their unique identities without fear of discrimination or exclusion. We cannot allow such transphobic rhetoric to tarnish our community or undermine the inclusion we cherish.
To the Executives at Scouting America, our message is clear: we need you to stand with us in rejecting this attack on scouters across the country. Take a definitive stance that Scouting is truly for all.
If scouting rejects its ideals of inclusion and community and follows along with government pressure, I hope you will all stand with your fellow scouters by withdrawing membership immediately, even as a member of high adventure staff, as I am prepared to do.
Remember the 5th point of the Scout Law: Courteous.
A scout is courteous of all people.
Together, we can ensure Scouting America remains a beacon of hope, acceptance, and encouragement for every young person who wishes to join this incredible community. I urge you to join me in taking a stand. Let us work together to make Scouting America safe and welcoming for all children and uphold the values we hold dear.
Sign the petition and let the leaders of Scouting America know that we demand action and protection of our fellow scouts.
