Tell Republicans: Don’t blame Canada — reverse the polluting US bill fueling wildfires
The Issue
Six Republican lawmakers just sent a letter to Canada complaining about the wildfire smoke choking the Midwest this summer. But here’s what they didn’t mention: just days earlier, those same lawmakers voted for a Trump-backed spending bill that will unleash 7 billion tons of new climate pollution.
The smoke they’re complaining about? It’s not just drifting south—it’s coming from U.S. policy, too.
The bill slashes funding for renewable energy, guts environmental protections, and gives handouts to the fossil fuel industry—all while extreme wildfires, heatwaves, and air quality alerts grow worse every year. Climate scientists are clear: more emissions mean more fires. More fires mean more smoke. It’s that simple.
Instead of pointing fingers at Canada, Congress should start taking responsibility.
We’re calling on Representatives Tom Tiffany, Brad Finstad, Tom Emmer, Glenn Grothman, Michelle Fischbach, and Pete Stauber to:
- Acknowledge the role of U.S. emissions in worsening wildfire risk
- Reverse support for the July 4th climate rollback bill
- Commit to legislation that actually protects air quality and public health
Stop blaming neighbors. Stop stalling science. Stop voting for more fire, more smoke, and more suffering.
Sign now to tell Congress: Fix the climate mess you helped create.
