As Ohioans, we believe in accountability, transparency, and public service. Not hate.

That’s why we were shocked to learn that an American flag altered with a swastika was found displayed inside the Capitol Hill office of Rep. Dave Taylor. A staff member appeared in a virtual meeting with the flag clearly visible behind him. The swastika is not just offensive. It is a hate symbol tied to the Holocaust, white supremacy, and the darkest parts of history.

Rep. Taylor says this was vandalism. He says he condemned the image and called Capitol Police. But right now, his constituents are left with more questions than answers.

We deserve better. We deserve the truth, not just from statements released in Washington, but face to face, here at home.

That’s why we’re calling on Rep. Dave Taylor to hold a public town hall in his district. He must meet with voters, explain how this happened, and answer direct questions about what steps he has taken to investigate it. If he can’t tell us who is responsible, then we need to know how something so serious slipped through the cracks in his own office.

This isn't a partisan issue. It’s a community issue. Hate symbols have no place in government offices—and our silence would only make things worse.

If Rep. Taylor refuses to speak publicly and honestly about this, then he is not fit to represent us. Trust must be earned. He owes that much to the people who elected him.
