Tell RedBubble to Implement Randomized Watermark to Protect Artists

Tell RedBubble to Implement Randomized Watermark to Protect Artists
The Issue
Artists worldwide are losing their work to automated scraping and unauthorized resale on platforms like Temu, often without ever knowing it happened. RedBubble has been a vital space for independent creators, but current protections are not enough to stop modern, AI-powered art theft.
We call on RedBubble to strengthen protections for its artist community by:
- Implementing randomized watermarking to prevent automated removal of visible watermarks by AI scraping bots.
- Strengthening production partner safeguards to prevent leaks or unauthorized duplication of artist designs before fulfillment.
These measures will make it harder for bad actors to bulk-download and mass-produce stolen designs, protecting both creators and RedBubble’s reputation as a trusted artist-first platform.
Why This Matters:
I have personally witnessed the harm caused by weak protections. My mother, an independent artist, had her original designs, sold exclusively on RedBubble, stolen and resold on Temu at a fraction of the price.
My own research into Temu’s IP theft problem has found similar cases affecting many artists. Without stronger defenses, this problem will only grow as AI tools make image theft faster, cheaper, and harder to detect.
I had made attempts to engage RedBubble on this matter, including writing an Open Letter. However, to this date I have not seen any response from them.
*Update: RedBubble finally responded to my emails and agreed to address this suggestion for future platform update. I reiterated the urgency of this matter and RedBubble then asked me to write to their IP Team. I sent an email highlighting our request on 8/16. Will keep updating as it goes.
Our Call to Action:
RedBubble:
- Roll out randomized watermarking across all product previews.
- Audit and monitor production partners for potential leaks.
Partner with artist advocacy groups to improve transparency and IP enforcement.
Protect the artists who power your platform. Without them, there is no RedBubble.
Sign This Petition If You Believe:
- Creators deserve to control how their work is used.
- Platforms have a responsibility to prevent, not just respond to, art theft.Technology should protect artists, not exploit them.
