Big revelations this week regarding the steel transmission lines poles in Eastport's historic district.
In PSEG's State Environmental Quality Review Act study, PSEG identified the project area as the towns of Riverhead and Southampton. The Town of Brookhaven was not listed. (This helps explain why PSEG says they told town leaders about their plans, while Brookhaven officials say they were never notified.)
Also, the SEQRA filing stated that the reconductoring would run from the Riverhead substation to where Sunrise Highway crosses Eastport Manor Road. In fact, the work extends nearly a mile south of Sunrise Highway, all the way down Eastport Manor Road to the Eastport substation.
These omissions, whether intentional or unintentional, are significant, and they strengthen the case to remove the poles and bury the lines.
