The Issue

The government shutdown has dragged on for over three weeks, impacting millions of Americans — from federal workers missing paychecks to families at risk of losing SNAP benefits, housing support, and access to vital services.

And yet, President Donald Trump refuses to show up.

While Democratic leaders have repeatedly called for talks, President Trump has stayed disengaged — attending events, traveling abroad, and ignoring the crisis at home. Republicans in Congress openly admit that nothing will change unless Trump himself gets involved.

“The only way to avoid shutdowns… is when the president engages.”
— Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA)

This isn’t about party politics. It’s about leadership. The president can’t claim to be a “dealmaker” while letting government operations grind to a halt and holding everyday Americans hostage in the process.

We call on President Donald J. Trump to:

  • Immediately meet with House and Senate leadership from both parties to negotiate a reopening deal;
  • Stop making ultimatums and start engaging in real, good-faith talks;
  • Reopen the government first, then debate policy differences — not the other way around.

Government employees are working without pay. Programs like SNAP may stop in days. National parks are shuttered, courts are cutting back, and public confidence is crumbling.

Enough is enough.

Sign this petition if you believe the president must get back to the table — and end this shutdown now.
