TELL PRESIDENT OBAMA AND CONGRESS TO PASS THE SAFE Act (S.541/H.R.1094) TO STOP THE CRUEL TRANSPORT OF US HORSES TO INTERNATIONAL SLAUGHTER HOUSES

Federal legislation to ban the cruel transport of horses bound for slaughter plants outside of the US is needed NOW! If the SAFE Act isn't passed, over 170,000 horses a year will be inhumanely transported outside of US borders for up to 2 days at a time without water, food or rest, only to be led to an excessively traumatic death in international slaughter plants.
The methods used to kill horses for slaughter rarely result in quick, painless deaths, as horses often endure repeated blows and sometimes remain conscious during their dismemberment. Also, it is well documented that horse meat is unsafe. Horses are routinely medicated with highly toxic drugs that are impossible to regulate. More than 80% of the public, the HSUS, the ASPCA are opposed to horse slaughter and support this bill.
Your voice is needed now and could mean the difference between life and horrible death for more than 170,000 U.S. horses -- both wild and domestic -- each year.

I don't want the export of American horses across borders for slaughter in other countries. Horses in America are not raised as food animals and are regularly given chemicals that have been prohibited for human consumption, rendering horse meat unsafe to humans. Over 80% of Americans overwhelmingly oppose horse slaughter. In addition, horse slaughter is excessively violent. Most horses suffer repeated blows and many remain conscious during their dismemberment.

Please support The SAFE Act (S.541/H.R.1094) and keep hundreds of thousands of horses per year safe from unnecessary brutality.
