Tell Newsom: Remove Parole Commissioners Who Put Public Safety at Risk

Tell Newsom: Remove Parole Commissioners Who Put Public Safety at Risk
The Issue
California families deserve to feel safe in their own communities.
Recently, the California Board of Parole Hearings approved the release of two convicted sex offenders, including David Allen Funston — described as a serial child predator who had originally been sentenced to multiple life terms. He was re-arrested the day of his release on additional allegations.
These decisions have sparked outrage across the state. While the Governor has said he cannot reverse the board’s independent ruling, he does appoint the commissioners who make these decisions.
If the people making parole decisions are approving the release of individuals convicted of kidnapping, rape, and child molestation, Californians have every right to question whether public safety is truly the top priority.
It is about protecting children, families, and communities.
We call on Governor Gavin Newsom to remove and replace parole board commissioners whose decisions put Californians at risk, and to appoint members who prioritize victims’ rights and public safety above all else.
California should put law-abiding families first — not violent criminals.
