We urge support for that deal and ask that it be judged on its merits.
This transaction should be seen for what it is: a way to strengthen competition in the media industry at a time when audiences have more viewing choices than ever. Blocking a deal like this out of fear of change would do real harm. It would weaken a challenger that has earned its place in the industry and leave fewer strong competitors standing.
This is not about eliminating competition. It is about preserving it in a market where only the strongest and most flexible businesses can keep serving viewers well. Healthy competition means companies succeed by competing on merit, not by being shielded from strong rivals.
The Paramount Skydance-WBD deal has already cleared regulatory approvals in more than 70 jurisdictions worldwide, including the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Brazil, Japan, India, and China, among others. Regulators in those markets examined the transaction on its merits and approved it. That broad international review reflects a simple point: this deal is pro-competitive and beneficial to the market.
The deal also reflects the kind of practical business planning that keeps major media companies alive and competitive. It includes continued work across the studio side, with 30 films planned at each studio each year, and a distribution strategy that calls for at least 45 days in theaters and 90 days in streaming. That structure supports audiences, creators, and the long-term health of the business. It is a path toward stability and growth.
Pro-competitive action in media can spur innovation, improve content diversity, and lead to better value for consumers. It can also create more room for collaboration and fresh content that reaches viewers in California, across America, and around the world.
We ask that this transaction be supported as a practical step toward preserving competition, encouraging investment, and giving the public more choice in the years ahead.
