Petition updateTell GTL to Restore Family Video Visits for Incarcerated IndividualsLosing the Little Moments That Keep Us Connected

I wanted to take a moment to share what this issue really feels like from the inside of my own home and my own marriage.

Video visits still exist — but they’ve changed in a way that has taken so much of the heart out of them. My husband and I can still see each other’s faces, and I’m grateful for that. But GTL has now blocked the ability for him to see anything in the background of our home.

That means I can’t show him our dogs — the ones he loves so deeply and talks about constantly. I can’t show him something in the house that’s broken so he can help me figure out how to fix it, the way he always has. Parents can’t even let two children be on screen at once. It’s like the system is trying to erase the reality of our lives, piece by piece.

These aren’t security risks.
These are moments of connection.
These are the ordinary pieces of family life that make us feel human and still connected to each other.

When your loved one is incarcerated, you lose so much already. Small things — a shared laugh at something the dog does, the chance to show him the new curtains he picked out, the ability to hold up the kids side‑by‑side — those moments matter more than words can explain. They’re the thread that keeps families from unraveling.

Thank you to everyone who’s already signed. Your support means more than you know. If this update resonates with you, please share the petition. Every signature is a voice saying that families should still be allowed to feel like families, even under the hardest circumstances.

We’re not asking for anything extraordinary — just the ability to stay connected in a real, human way.

❤️ Thank you for standing with us.
