Two new studies have made clear that there is no basis for imposing a booster mandate.
Study 1
A just-published study found that the vaccine does not prevent transmission of this new, milder Omicron variant. The initial vaccines were reported to have a 95% efficacy rate against transmission, and the FDA would not have approved any vaccine that had a rate of less than 50%.
We now know that the booster has only a 37% efficacy rate, and that limited protection is likely to only last for a few months.
So while this means everyone will get infected at some point, the vaccines still work at turning Covid into a mild illness that will be similar to the common cold for most.
But this means that there is no societal or public benefit to justify forcing boosters onto someone. The argument for the original vaccine mandates was that the violation of freedom was justified by the societal benefit of stopping transmission and thereby eliminating the virus altogether. With a vaccine that has a 95% efficacy rate, that is a valid point. When the rate drops to below 50%, that no longer applies. For the booster, the rate starts at 37% two weeks after getting the shot, and then declines from there.
Thus, the booster is not capable of stopping or even preventing transmission in a meaningful way.
Study 2
The harms of additional doses for males under the age of 40 is much higher than previously thought. Males age 18-24 were hospitalized due to vaccine induced myocarditis at a rate of 1 per 2,000 after the second dose. This is an incredibly serious, painful condition that almost always requires hospitalization and, in rare cases, can result in death.
By comparison, a healthy vaccinated male in that age group faces zero risk of death, and something like a 1 in a million risk of hospitalization from Covid. In other words, the booster exposes that male to risks that vastly outweigh the benefits.
No societal benefit plus net harm to those subject to the mandate means there is no basis whatsoever to justify a booster mandate.
I made this argument, albeit less clearly, on the Laura Ingraham show last night. You can click below to watch. And thank you all so much for your support!
