Tell Joe Keery, the creative behind Djo, that we, the trans community, would like “Egg” merchandise.

Across the nation, people have been jamming out to Djo’s new album, The Crux. No one was more delighted than I, a trans masc Djo fan, to see a song called “Egg.” For the uninitiated, an “egg” is an affectionate term for a person who has not yet realized they’re trans. Without realizing it, Djo accidentally wrote an Egg anthem with lyrics like “I’m crawling out of my skin” and “don’t you wish you could be somebody else.”

I have it on good authority (a friend in the band) that Joe is a sweet man who is honored that trans folks have responded to Egg. He’s been approached after shows to sign hormone vials. Because he’s a gentleman and an ally, he would never make merch for “Egg” on his own because he wouldn’t exploit queer people for a fun joke. HOWEVER—if WE, the trans Djo fan community, tell him that an Egg merch drop for Pride would be SO GREAT and delightful, he might just commit to the bit.

Proceeds from the merch can/should benefit For the Gworls, Trans Lifeline, and/or the Transgender Law Center (other org suggestions welcome). We need some joy and strong cis allyship these days, let’s get it from acclaimed actor and musician Joe Keery. 

Potential visions: DJO on a black baby tee or crop top, with each letter a different color—pink, blue, and white (🏳️‍⚧️), with a sunny side up Egg on it. Or “Egg by Djo” in black letters on a pink/white/blue Tye-dyed shirt. Even buttons or pins would be cute.
