Actualización de la peticiónTell Derby City Council: ACT NOW on the cost of living & poverty crisis #FairChanceDerbySend a Question to Derby City Council
Derby People's Assembly #FairChanceDerbyDerby, Reino Unido
3 sept 2022

Our #FairChanceDerby #CostOfLivingCrisis campaign motion passed at the May 2022 Council meeting, but now we need to demand action - and we need your help! It's a quick easy task before midday on 13th September.

Submit a question to the Council. Help us keep up the pressure to ensure that Derby City Council takes action on the cost of living crisis and implements the Socio-Economic Duty (tackling class discrimination). Submit a question about this to the next Full Council meeting (6pm 21st September) to show that Derby folks want to see deeds, not just words - the media will be there reporting too >>>

1. Send your questions (maximum of 2 per person) before 12 midday Tuesday 13th September (scroll down for examples below)

2. E-mail this to: committee@derby.gov.uk (also let them know whether you will attend in person in the public gallery; you don't have to attend but great if you can; questioners must be in Derby - please provide the address of your home or business when submitting a question)

3. Questions (with just your name) and the Council's answers will be published on the Council website by 5pm on 21st September at: https://democracy.derby.gov.uk/Meetingscalendar/tabid/73/ctl/ViewMeetingPublic/mid/410/Meeting/9764/Committee/1881/Default.aspx

At the meeting: After the councillor has read out the response to your question, the Mayor will ask if you wish to ask a short verbal supplementary question (if you attend). This must be related to your original question.

With your help we can get the Council to step up and take action. Thank you!

What can I ask? >>>
Examples of relevant questions (but please put it in your own words and ask whatever you wish):
What progress has been made by the Council in implementing the Socio-Economic Duty and urgent action plan on the cost of living crisis, as pledged via the motion passed at Council in May 2022?

Given the Council's motion (May 2022) to adopt the Socio-Economic Duty, what steps are being taken to address... [insert issue here e.g. the impact of soaring energy bills, food poverty, child hunger, rising homelessness, risk of evictions, shortage of affordable and social housing, the risk of soaring energy bills for disabled people who rely on electric medical devices...]?

In May 2022 Council passed a motion to create an urgent action plan on the cost of living crisis in partnership with Derby United Against Poverty, Derby People's Assembly, local unions and community groups tackling poverty - what steps have been taken to contact such groups and develop this urgent action plan?

Derby was in the 10 worst local authorities for the life expectancy gap between the richest and poorest people before the cost of living crisis; what steps will Council now take to reduce this gap and safeguard the most vulnerable people from the effects of the soaring energy bills this Winter?

Derby city is among the 20% most deprived areas nationally and the city has higher rates of children in low income families, households facing fuel poverty, and homelessness, than the overall rates for England; in line with the Council's motion to adopt the Socio-Economic Duty, what resources have been allocated and what targets have been set to improve the city's performance on the index of multiple deprivation?

With the Council's Socio-Economic Duty in mind, what steps have been taken to address Derby Poverty Commission's letter to the city's leaders warning of the risk of 'fuel stress' for 30,0000 Derby households?
