CPGC TRIAL DAY#1: IS DENVER TAKING CONTROL OF THE CITY AWAY FROM CITIZENS? (SEE 20 SEC. ACTION BELOW) “This case is about what the Denver charter gives the people — and about what the city is trying to take away from the people in violation of the charter,” said plaintiffs’ attorney Aaron Goldhamer..." http://www.denverpost.com/2017/08/21/city-park-golf-course-lawsuit-trial-begins/ TODAY,CPGC TRIAL DAY# 2: Happy Haynes, the Director of Denver Department of Parks and Recreation, Mayor Hancock's political appointee, will take the stand as a park "expert". ( 9AM- 5PM, AUG 22-24, City & County Bldg, 1437 Bannock St. Room # 269) Come for all or part. Happy apparently had no previous experience running a park much less an entire department. The citizens of Denver have no say in what happens to their parks because in 2010, Denver City Council ceded all control over our parks to one person: Mayor Hancock. He is now completely free to use our parks for anything that he deems as a "park use". With a wave of his magic wand, huge music festivals in quiet neighborhoods, incinerators, parking garages, drains for transportation projects like I 70 and the Western Stock Show in his Corridor of "Opportunity..... become "park uses". Next, will he want to build an apartment house on the Historic Esplanade in City Park or put up a parking garage on the ball fields in City Park? Our precious parks are out of control and we are powerless to stop it unless we make our voices heard. SEE 20 SECOND ACTION BELOW ______________________ ACTION: Copy and paste this email to Denver City Council. Add your own comments: Dear Denver City Council, In 2010, you ceded complete control of Denver's precious parks to one person: Mayor Hancock. His political appointee, the Director of Denver Department of Parks and Recreation now carries out his mandates for our parks absent citizen input or control. This was a big mistake. The voice of the people has been shut out. We no longer have a say in what happens to our own parks. The government no longer has the benefit of the collective wisdom of the people. A dictator has replaced the voice of the people. Please take back control of Denver's parks now. Let our voices be heard again.
