Parks are also the people who use and love them. • SO while we are all fighting to save CPGC from Mayor Hancock's wrecking ball to turn it into a storm DRAIN sump, we recognize that the Highway I 70 expansion and the DRAIN are all connected. The DRAIN"S main purpose is to keep the federally funded, lowered Highway i 70 Boondoggle expansion from flooding. • OUR neighbors who live in Cole, Globeville, Swansea and Elyria, have suffered health, economic and social injustice since HIGHWAY I -70 cut through their communities in 1964, before there were laws to protect them from the health ravages of pollution. https://tinyurl.com/jev3e24 • NOW we have the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) AND laws that are supposed to protect all residents, especially the most vulnerable, from these harms. See NEPA web site: https://ceq.doe.gov/ • DID Denver & CDOT conspire to evade these laws and EPA laws by saying that there was no connection between I 70 expansion and the DRAIN that will directly impact Cole, CPGC, and Globeville, Swansea & Elyria? The neighborhoods are all in the toxic I 70 Vasquez Superfund Site. They say: "NO connection.... no federal dollars.... no federal protection for affected neighborhoods and parks." No information about health and safety risks to people, air water, soil .....from digging in the most polluted zip code in the United States, 80216?" "Aghast, Eisenhower attempted to get the federal government out of the urban freeway business. But it was too late: the program had built up momentum that not even he could halt." https://tinyurl.com/hf7ov7z • DID Denver and CDOT conspire to evade federal protections for poor , Latino neighborhoods and City Park Golf Course? "The potential for CDOT to separate the drainage work from the main PCL project as an early action item was discussed. Timing for a drainage early action item would probably include..." https://tinyurl.com/hoe4fqj • WAS the DRAIN planned to keep Highway i 70 expansion from flooding? Should the DRAIN and I-70 both provide federal scrutiny and "protections" for all affected areas, not just I 70? "For the last several months, staff has been negotiating the terms of an IGA with the City of Denver that provides $37M direct funding contribution to the I-70 East project, an additional $46M in in-kind and risk reductions, and a commitment to prioritize the funding of the I-25/Alameda project valued at $30M. The IGA also commits CDOT funding support for a comprehensive drainage system." https://tinyurl.com/jkysug5 THE DENVER ZIP CODE 80216 HAS THE WORST POLLUTION IN THE UNITED STATES. "Denver’s most at-risk neighborhoods [ GLOBEVILLE, SWANSEA, EYRIA,, COLE] scored even worse than the 14303 ZIP code-area near the old Love Canal site in New York, considered one of the nation’s worst environmental disasters." https://tinyurl.com/hokrsq9 DENVER AGAIN RECOGNIZED AS BACKWARDS "FREEWAYS WITHOUT FUTURES" "Now, a group called Unite North Metro Denver has a better proposal: Reroute interstate traffic to the north, and redesign I-70 as a bike- and pedestrian-friendly boulevard. Such a plan would cut noise and air pollution while bringing new investment opportunity to neglected neighborhoods. Furthermore, the boulevard would cost less, open up developable land, and reunite areas that have been blighted by the highway" https://tinyurl.com/zl7mebq ________________________________________________ VIEW OUR VIDEO LIBRARY • Denver Can Do Better: Faulty Waters: https://vimeo.com/169650756 • Superfund Dig: Denver the next Flint, Mi?: https://youtu.be/xcyrU743qs0 • THE Perfect Storm: "Platte-to-Park Hill" Storm Drainage to Expand Globeville Landing Outfall: https://youtu.be/rMINWQw7IW4 • Don't Flood Globeville: https://youtu.be/n89hitYRSbA • I-70, Expansion or Destruction? https://youtu.be/Yu9HL_3rJb0 • I-70 Denver Reimagined: https://youtu.be/YzWyb6LsLrc
