Tell Democrats to Withdraw Biden as Presidential Nominee and Support Other Candidates
The Issue
Democratic National Committee: Support a pool of other Democratic candidates - like former Democratic Presidential candidate Julian Castro (from 2020), former Presidential candidate Dean Phillips (from 2024), and current Democratic candidate Marianne Williamson - in the 2024 Presidential run. Stop stifling debate. Withdraw Biden as the nominee or let other candidates debate Biden now and participate in a nomination process that is not already set in stone.
On Wednesday, three Trump-appointed judges on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit unjustly granted the writ of mandamus filed by Biden’s Department of Justice, directing Judge Ann Aiken to dismiss Juliana v. United States, part of a global movement of youth-led constitutional climate litigation. This dismissal by the Biden Administration, after Nobel laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz supported Juliana. After supporters from across the globe turned to action sending 70,000+ emails to the Biden Administration and gathering 320,000+ signatures on a global petition calling for Juliana to go to trial. How many more climate crisis induced disasters have to happen before anything will be done?
My family and I are climate refugees, fleeing Florida after Hurricane Irma. I am a Baby Boomer who has always voted Democratic. I do not want to leave my children to face climate change for the rest of their lives with our government attacking and stifling efforts to save us all.
Hala Rharrit, an 18-year career diplomat with the U.S. State Department, was the first diplomat to resign publicly over Gaza. She stated in an interview with Democracy Now, “I could no longer be a part of the State Department and promote this policy. It’s an inhumane policy. It’s a failed policy that is helping neither Palestinians, neither Israelis,” Rharrit says. “We are not authorized to send military equipment, weapons to countries that commit human rights abuses. ICJ has determined plausible genocide, yet we are still sending billions upon billions of not just defensive weaponry, but offensive weaponry. It is tantamount to a violation of domestic law. Many diplomats know it. Many diplomats are scared to say it.”
Biden continues to ignore and marginalize voices of dissent. When asked by another reporter about college protests, Biden summarily swept their concerns aside.
REPORTER: Mr. President, have the protests forced you to reconsider any of the policies with regard to the region?
PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN: No.
Joe Biden is not looking forward; he is looking backward. The list of backward-looking goes on and on, far beyond climate change and Gaza. We are facing crisis after crisis. And yet Biden has somehow become the Democratic nominee with no debating allowed whatsoever. This cannot be allowed to stand. The Democratic Party cannot continue to brush so many concerns aside from so many different people.
