The Issue

In the wake of the tragic mass shooting in Bondi Beach, Australia responded with urgency and unity — announcing a nationwide gun buyback program, along with sweeping reforms to restrict high-capacity weapons and limit gun ownership.

Fifteen people were killed. Dozens more were wounded. And in the span of days, Australia took action to ensure it never happens again.

Meanwhile, here in the United States, mass shootings happen almost daily, and yet Congress remains frozen. Children die in classrooms. Families are torn apart at concerts, parades, and places of worship. And nothing changes.

It’s time for that to end.

We, the undersigned, are calling on Congress and the White House to launch a national gun buyback and reduction program modeled after Australia’s — one that includes:

  • A federally funded gun buyback program to remove surplus, illegal, and high-capacity firearms from circulation
  • Limits on the number of firearms any one person can own
  • A universal national firearms registry accessible to law enforcement
  • Mandatory background checks, licensing, and training for all gun owners
  • Stronger rules to restrict access to military-style weapons used in mass shootings.

Australia acted after 15 lives were lost. How many more will it take in America?

This is not about taking away every gun. It’s about reducing the number of deadly weapons in circulation — and doing what almost every other developed country has done to save lives.

We know buybacks work. We know reform works. What we don’t know is why U.S. leaders continue to let our families live in fear when real solutions are on the table.

Sign this petition to tell Congress: America needs a national gun buyback program — now.
