Teenagers mountain bike jumps continue to be destroyed!!

The issue

Mountain Bike jumps, hand-built by the teenagers of Bargara, always seem to be destroyed by council or members of the public. This is devastating for these young people who are only looking for a space to ride their bikes and have fun together. The building of jumps is influenced by the lack of recreational facilities for teenagers in the local area. Young children are well catered for in the area as there are 4 amazing playgrounds between the Basin and Neilsons Beach. Although there is a skatepark in the Bargara area many small children PLAY in this area making it unusable and unsafe for teenagers riding at experienced levels. Many parents of the young children are very discouraging of teenagers in this space especially on “big bikes”. In summary teenagers have nowhere to follow their riding passions and hang out with each other in their free time.

We are proposing for council to allocate a dedicated mountain bike dirt jump area or even possibly a space were jumps can be built by teenagers and not be destroyed. This would also cater for a wide range of rider experiences as jumps can be made to suit rider ability.
