Children across the country are victims of bullying, not just at school but on the bus ride to and from home. I want to help keep our children safe while traveling to and from school on the school bus. School is suppose to be a place a child learns and grows, they're suppose to feel safe and at ease. My children love school but they beg for me to please take them, they do not like riding the bus. I had to move my special needs daughter to a different bus away from her siblings due to the bullying and assault she has received. Breakfast fuels their body to focus and the ride to school should give them time to reflect on what kind of day they'll have and excite them to learn new things. In a classroom a child has their teacher and counselor to assist them if they are being picked on. On the school bus the driver needs to be focused on the road while keeping our children safe. My children and many other children are bullied and assaulted while on the school bus because the driver can not pay attention to them and drive safely. My step son had to be taken to the Emergency Room because another student kicked him in his head. My children are in elementary and pre-k, they have to ride the bus with students from junior high and high school. There is no one to keep them safe. My daughter was choked and her head was slammed against the window by a junior high student. She's 7. I have been in contact with the transportation department with no solutions being offered. I have spoken to them until I am breathless and no change has been made. I am proposing a law that requires monitors to be placed on all school buses across the country to help keep our children safe. The bus driver often tells me she did not see these incidents that are affecting these children's and my children's health and well being. I'm reaching out and begging for some resolution to help these bus drivers focus on the road while someone's sole purpose is to keep our children from being attacked.
