$1 Million Increase in tax liability due to Region 18 Budget

Last week, the Old Lyme Board of Finance presented the budget for next year which includes a $1.2 million increase in the bill from Region 18.
One argument for the expanded pre-K by Board Chair Mimi Roche is that the pre-K expansion is a small percentage of the increase. However, the full costs are not accurately represented in the budget. Nor have any alternatives to reducing the tax impact been explored. In addition, current programs and facilities for our k-12 children are not funded 100%.
Taking on the pre-K expansion in its current form is fiscally irresponsible for the towns of Lyme and Old Lyme. Only our Board of Education can respond to concerns from taxpayers. Please sign the petition, write to our Board of Education and continue to share with your neighbors in Lyme and Old Lyme.
May 7th is the Referendum Vote for all taxpayers.
