At a time when working families are struggling and vital services like child care, public education, and health care are underfunded, Wisconsin Republicans just voted to block Governor Tony Evers’ plan to raise taxes on millionaires. They protected the richest 1%—and once again left the rest of us behind.

Evers proposed a modest increase for joint tax filers earning more than $1 million per year. That money would have gone toward lifting up those who need it most: low-income college students, children, seniors, and veterans. Instead, Republicans chose tax cuts for the wealthy over funding for our communities.

We cannot build a fair economy while shielding millionaires from paying their share. Wisconsin has a $4 billion surplus. That money should be used to invest in schools, infrastructure, and public health - not hoarded by those who need it least.

We demand that the Wisconsin Legislature reconsider its stance. Tax fairness isn’t radical—it’s common sense. Raise taxes on millionaires and reinvest in the people of Wisconsin.
