Tax Relief for MA citizens - change MA state income taxes

Tax Relief for MA citizens - change MA state income taxes
The Issue
Massachusetts is known for its high taxes, which leaves more than one third of Massachusetts households cost burdened, earning Massachusetts the name "Taxachusetts".
That is why my idea is to decrease the MA state income tax, for people whose household income is below 75,000$ annually, from 5% to 3%, and increase the 4% millionaire surtax to 5.6%.
There are multiple ways in which the tax burden is affecting Massachusetts residents:
- 1 in 3 Massachusetts households experience food insecurity
- 1.3 million MA citizens have reported needing to choose between paying their energy bills and paying for food or healthcare
- More than 33,000 residents moved to a different state in a year, just because of Massachusetts' high prices
- More than 900,000 households missed at least one energy payment while 8 in every 10 MA residents are concerned about their utility bills
- 1 in every 3 children in MA are clothing insecure
- In a single recent year, there were 27,000 eviction filings for nonpayment of rent, leading to 9,000 evictions, leading to Massachusetts to have the nation's 5th highest homelessness population
- Massachusetts is the most expensive state for working families to live in, and the second most expensive state, for single adults, in the U.S.
- The Massachusetts cost of living is 49% higher than the national average
It is very important to make Massachusetts more affordable, to help all the people in need. So in order to support decreasing the MA state income tax, for people whose household income is below 75,000$ annually, from 5% to 3%, and increasing the 4% millionaire surtax to 5.6%, sign this petition.
