TAX POLITICALLY ACTIVE CHURCHES & REPORT THEM TO THE IRS
The Issue
As an individual who firmly believes in the separation of church and state, the rise of churches unduly influencing politics is deeply concerning to me. It's important to remember that institutions who are exempted from paying taxes, such as churches under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, are prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in any political campaign. If we have to pay taxes, so should they.
If you suspect a church of being involved in politics, report them to the IRS:
You can use Form 13909, Tax-Exempt Organization Complaint (Referral) Form to report a tax-exempt organization, including a church, involved in prohibited political activities.
You can submit this form electronically via email to eoclass@irs.gov
