Overturn the decision to sell Historic Village land to TECT

The issue

Tauranga City Council has chosen to sell land owned by the ratepayers to TECT for the purpose of building a "community hub"

This has been done without widespread community consultation, nor any consideration into the submissions, for or against the building.

A social media campaign with close to 1000 supporters which strongly opposed the project was also ignored.

Either way, the 10 year Village Plan from June 2015 does not mention any leasing or selling the land for this purpose.

Very little money will be left from the sale to go back into the Historic Village, once all legal and development costs are taken into consideration. What money is left is simply going to pay off "Debt" we are told. So what will be left to "improve" the village?

Whether or not the Historic Village becomes a museum again is irrelevant to our opposition of the TECT hub.

The topic of a future Historic Village Museum is a completley different issue altogether.

The above decision is in in clear violation of the councils OWN 10 year plan for the Historic Village!

In the 10 year plan, it clearly states the value of the Village Green and how this should be retained.

We have the future of the Historic Village in mind, and the sale of the valuable greenspace used as a concert venue and other community events will be halved.

The only way forward for the Historic village is to make this a great place for community events. The TECT hub will significantly hinder the size of future events held at the Historic Village.

There is plenty of other sites already developed and ready for TECT to build on if they wished, and still handy to the Historic Village.

By signing this, you show your support for the future of the Tauranga Historic Village.
